Principal Front End / React Developer

We’re partnering with a leading UK technology business seeking a Principal Front End Developer to take a senior, hands-on role within their engineering organisation. This position blends deep technical ownership with the ability to influence, guide, and elevate front end quality across multiple long-lived products.

The Role

As the senior front end authority within the business, you’ll work closely with other principals, technical leads, and cross-functional product teams. You will set direction, solve complex technical challenges, and drive consistency across a diverse front end estate.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading front end architecture and technical direction across multiple products.

• Hands-on development using React, TypeScript, and modern front end tooling.

• Improving and modernising an extensive front end codebase with mixed legacy patterns.

• Planning and breaking down major refactors and technical debt into achievable phases.

• Acting as the go-to specialist for solving complex front end problems.

• Mentoring engineers at all levels, from apprentices to senior/lead developers.

• Championing high standards in testing, automation, quality, and release processes.

• Bringing alignment, clarity, and best practices to the organisation’s wider front end strategy.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys improving real-world, evolving product systems rather than focusing solely on greenfield projects.

Required Experience

You will need:

• Extensive experience with React and TypeScript in mature, complex product environments.

• A proven track record of influencing architecture, engineering standards, and long-term technical direction.

• Experience mentoring and developing engineers at multiple career levels.

• Exposure to automated testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright).

• Experience working in cloud environments, ideally AWS.

• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and delivering production-ready software.
