Senior React Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior React Engineer to join a high-performing technology team within a leading financial services organisation operating in the oil and energy derivatives trading sector.

The business develops and supports a cutting-edge electronic trading platform, providing low-latency, highly resilient trading access to both internal traders and external clients through a modern, data-intensive user interface.

This role is ideal for a senior frontend engineer who thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, takes ownership of complex technical challenges, and consistently delivers high-quality, performant UI solutions. You will work closely with engineering, QA, and DevOps teams, contributing to a strong engineering culture focused on reliability, performance, and best practices.

Role & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a React and TypeScript-based trading UI

• Build real-time, data-driven interfaces supporting live streaming market data

• Integrate frontend applications with RESTful APIs and streaming services (Rust & Python backends)

• Own and drive performance optimisation across dashboards, widgets, and data visualisations

• Collaborate with QA and DevOps to improve automated testing and CI/CD pipelines

• Lead initiatives around frontend security, scalability, monitoring, and resilience

• Use observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) to track UI performance and health

• Influence frontend architecture decisions, performance benchmarking, and engineering best practices

Essential Skills & Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline

• 5+ years’ experience in frontend or UI engineering at scale

• Advanced knowledge of React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript

• Strong experience with WebSockets, low-latency data streaming, and real-time applications

• Proven ability to optimise data-heavy UIs and improve rendering and load performance

• Experience working with Redis, Kafka, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure

• Proficient with Git and modern source control workflows

• Strong understanding of performance diagnostics, responsive design, and UI optimisation techniques

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience deploying applications to the Apple App Store

• Knowledge of web security best practices and frontend threat mitigation

• Familiarity with microservices architectures and REST API design

• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform)

• Previous experience working on real-time trading systems or advanced data visualisation platforms

Contract Details & Package

• Initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension

• Up to £800 per day (dependent on experience)

• On-site role – Central London
